Cokin

Cokin filters have an interesting history that began with the vision of renowned French photographer Jean Coquin in the early 1970s. Frustrated with the limitations of traditional screw-on filters, Coquin sought a more versatile and creative solution for manipulating light and color in photography.

In 1978, Coquin introduced the Cokin Creative Filter System, which revolutionized the way photographers used filters. The system consisted of a holder that attached to the camera lens via an adapter ring and square or rectangular filters that slid into the holder. This modular design allowed photographers to easily combine multiple filters and adjust their positioning for precise control over the effects applied to their images.

The Cokin system quickly gained popularity among photographers for its versatility and creative possibilities. With a wide range of filters available, including color correction, graduated neutral density, and creative effects filters, Cokin filters became essential tools for photographers seeking to enhance their images in-camera.

Over the years, Cokin continued to innovate, introducing new filter materials, sizes, and accessories to meet the evolving needs of photographers. In 2011, Cokin was acquired by the parent company of Kenko Tokina Co., Ltd., expanding its reach and ensuring its continued presence in the photography market.

Today, Cokin filters remain a popular choice among photographers worldwide, known for their quality, versatility, and innovative design. The Cokin Creative Filter System continues to inspire creativity and enable photographers to push the boundaries of their craft.
